TAKE ACTION

CALL IN SICK

The best part of SOID is that you don’t have to go to work. That doesn’t mean you CAN’T go to work, but work sucks, and we don’t recommend it. Call your boss and tell him or her that you just got diagnosed with fascism, but it’s probably just the 24-hour variety, and you’ll be back at work the next day. Then call your Congressperson and Senator and go back to bed. You’ll probably be doing more for the country than you did the day before.

CALL YOUR CONGRESSPERSON OR SENATOR

Yes, we know. They’re pretty useless. But that’s because we let them be. This is just the first step. Call your representatives and tell them you’re sick of it. “Hi, my name is ___, I live in ___ and you represent me. I want you to ___.” By reminding them that they work for you, you are subtly implying that they can be fired. This is how democracy is supposed to work. Unfortunately, our representatives do not take their constituents too seriously because if they don’t have the gumption to even call, they’re not going to have it together enough to elect someone else.

VISIT YOUR CONGRESSPERSON OR SENATOR

On SOID, Congress is not in session because from March 17 to March 28 they will be home on “Spring District Work Period.” That’s government double-speak for “VACATION,” but they might take some of that time to schmooze constituents and do other things to help ensure their reelection. This means they will probably be in your area and you can corner them in person. Call their office ahead of time and try to set up a meeting. Every minute they spend with you is one less minute they can spend with military-industrial complex lobbyists. They represent you, not the lobbyists. Think of it as calling them into YOUR office and giving them a performance evaluation.

PROTEST LOCALLY

There’s a million other things you can do locally to raise awareness and challenge people to think. Locate one of the groups working for change in your area. For a few (198) ideas on things you can do, check out the Albert Einstein Institutions list.

PROTEST IN WASHINGTON DC

Just because Congress isn’t there, doesn’t mean there won’t be a lot of sick people in DC. To get plugged in to actions in DC, check out RESIST IN MARCH

TAKE DIRECT ACTION

This is where the rubber really meets the road. Direct action is when you do something beyond begging, pleading, even threatening, to make the change you want to see. When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty. Some examples:
